Drunk Driver Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash
Just after midnight, the plaintiff was driving through an intersection with a green light when another driver sped through a red light at 50 mph in a 25-mph zone and crashed into their car. The impact sent the plaintiff’s car spinning into a stopped METRO bus and then into a pole. Fortunately, several cameras on the bus captured the crash.
Police arrived quickly, arrested the defendant for drunk driving (DWI), and charged them with resisting arrest. The plaintiff suffered serious injuries, including a concussion, neck and back pain, rib and shoulder pain, along with bruising. They also experienced headaches, memory problems, and trouble sleeping. Treatment included chiropractic care, physical therapy, and neurology visits, with medical bills totaling $12,225.
Since the defendant fled the country and had limited assets, Tom Curcio of Curcio Law handled the case and secured the maximum insurance payout available—$100,000. GEICO paid the $50,000 liability limit, and Travelers covered the remaining $50,000 through the plaintiff’s underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage.
Woman Wins Settlement After Dog Attack in Neighborhood
A 69-year-old woman was attacked by a dog while walking in her neighborhood on a Sunday morning. The incident happened when an 80-pound male boxer ran out of its owner’s unfenced yard and onto the sidewalk. The woman suffered multiple bite wounds on her left arm, right hand, legs, and buttocks, with a serious bite on her forearm that required surgery to close. She also had a large hematoma on her upper thigh.
The surgery went well, but the woman was terrified during the attack, fearing that the dog could have killed her if its owner hadn’t regained control. Records from the Fairfax County Police Department revealed two previous incidents where the same dog had bitten a neighbor.
Tom Curcio of Curcio Law handled the case, which quickly settled for $123,700 shortly after the lawsuit was filed.
